Here we try to give an estimate of what it might cost for any organisation to implement PanPhone with their staff or perhaps a group of beneficiaries.

Software

The PanPhone software will be free for anyone to download and install on their smartphone. When the software is ready, we will provide a download link on this website.

Anyone who wishes to get access to the cloud will have to pay a subscription fee.

Hardware

Smartphone prices are coming down rapidly (see e.g. here and here) and it is expected that within a few years, the cheapest smartphones will match the current price of a basic mobile phone. Today (September 2013) the cheapest new smartphone cost anywhere between $75 and $125, depending very much on the country you buy them in. Second-hand smartphones already go for as low as $50.

Solar phone chargers can be found starting from around $30.

Mobile data costs depend on quantities purchased, country and provider. As an example, if you are an organisation in Malawi buying airtime for multiple phones from Airtel, then the cost per MB of data can go down to as low as 2.33 MKW (see latest prices here). PanPhone is expected to use around 2 MB/day. Monthly airtime costs per user will then be 142 MKW.

Other

Depending on the situation, there can be additional costs such as training of users and/or custom app development.
